Setting Homework
·          Set homework in accordance with homework timetable·          Set homework in good time to allow pupils to record the task and ask questions·          Give clear guidelines about what the expected outcome should be·          Where appropriate provide a suggested structure for the task that will help learning·          Give guidance on the length of written homework, with clear limits for open-ended tasks·          If appropriate write down the information relating to the task·          Ensure all pupils have the skills and facilities to complete the task in the time available·          Establish clear deadlines and ensure these are met·          Record homework in your planner·          Ensure you understand the task and ask for help if necessary·          Inform your parent if you cannot complete the task and ask them to write the reasons in your planner·          If your teacher is absent and no homework is set, then write “teacher absent” in your planner·          Ensure you stay up-to-date with your homework schedule·          Check homework in the pupil planner at least once a week to ensure that it is recorded properly·          Sign the planner weekly·          Ensure that your daughter understands the task·          Inform your daughter’s teacher, via the planner, if the task has not been completed properly and confirm the reason for this·          Help your daughter to plan her homework to fit in with home activities·          If possible ensure your daughter is able to complete her homework in a quiet place with no distractions 
Quantity of Homework
·          Homework quantity should match the guidelines for each year group·          Give guidance on the length of written homework expressed in number of words rather than pages·          For extended tasks clear guidelines will be given and the work regularly monitored·      Check that you have completed the whole task·      Ensure that enough time is given to homework and that time is used productively·      Ask your teacher or parent for additional resources if needed for extended tasks·     Ensure learning homework is done as thoroughly as written homework·     Check that your daughter uses her time productively, not exceeding the time guidelines for homework, unless she is happy to extend the work out of interest ·     Inform the teacher via the planner if she has not been able to complete the task in time·     Encourage your daughter to show you her homework 
Presentation Skills
·          Give guidelines about your expectations for the standard of presentation·          Provide pupils with a clear structure to help them to complete extended written tasks·      All work should be well presented, and should include a title and date·     Follow the teacher’s guidelines about presentation and make sure you do not use fancy presentation to hide poor work·     Check the requirements of the task and ensure your daughter does not spend too much time on fancy presentation at the expense of content 
Use of the Internet
·          Ensure sites appropriate to the age group are used, including Moodle·          Give guidance on how internet research may be effectively incorporated into work·          Remind pupils of the availability of the Library computers and e-learning·      Access the appropriate sites for the task·      Find resources on the internet and summarise in your own words – do not simply copy and paste·      Make regular use of the virtual learning environment (Moodle)·    If you do not have a home computer, encourage you daughter to use the facilities in the school library·    At home, check regularly that appropriate sites are being used·    Encourage use of the virtual learning environment (Moodle)
Marking Homework
·          Deadlines set should match the needs of the pupils·          Deadlines should not be extended for those who have made little or no effort to complete the task on time·          Ensure that pupils understand the assessment criteria·          Mark with positive, supportive comments and guidance for improvement·          Aim to ensure that homework is assessed or checked within a week of submission·          Peer marking, when used, should enhance the learning of the marker and the student being marked·          Good quality feedback should enable pupils to make better progress·      Meet deadlines, particularly if you have to hand in your homework before the next lesson·      Complete your homework in line with the assessment criteria provided by your teacher·      Ask the teacher if you do not understand how your homework has been marked  ·    Check that you and your daughter are aware of the deadlines for homework and are on schedule to meet them·    Encourage your daughter to show you her marked homework and discuss it with her 
Homework Follow Up
·          Check that pupils act on advice given·          Provide grades for homework at reporting points in line with AfL·          Inform Heads of Learning of pupils with poor learning skills or practices·          Follow Faculty policy on missed homework and support those finding it difficult·    Try to use the advice given by your teacher in your next piece of work·    Encourage your daughter to follow any advice from her teacher on how to improve her work·    Support the school in actions taken to improve attention to homework
