Change of access for Cars and Buses to High School
Work has been taking place over the Summer holidays to improve the safety of the school site for all users. Signed bus stops have been installed so that buses drop off and collect at the same point every day. This will ensure students know where to wait for their bus. In addition, there are new bus shelters to protect students from any poor weather.
The new bus stops are situated in the lay-by next to the astroturf and along the exit road by the Boys' School Sports Centre. This means that parents will no longer be able to drop off or wait for students in the lay-by. A temporary dropping-off and waiting area has been created by the mini roundabout near to the Boys' School main reception (this will be clearly signed). For the first week or so of the term, a team of staff and police in high visibility jackets will direct cars and buses through the school site. Cars and buses will enter the site from Kingsham Road, and leave the school site via Basin Road by the post office, i.e. there will be one-way traffic through the site.
Our aim is gradually to reduce the amount of traffic on the school site, making it much safer for the 3,500 students and staff who use the site every day.
We want to encourage more students to walk to school, and parents to drop their children off a short distance away so that they walk the final part of their journey.
Car parking permits have been introduced for staff and sixth form students.
