All members of our school have a responsibility to ensure that everyone is able to learn in a caring, friendly and safe environment. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Definition
Bullying occurs when an individual or group is repeatedly and deliberately causing emotional distress or physical pain and can take many forms:
Aims
1. To promote respect and tolerance.
2. To ensure the school is free from all forms of bullying.
3. To ensure everyone in the school community clearly understands what is meant by
bullying, knows it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
4. To provide a safe environment in which everyone is able to seek help and support if
bullying occurs.
5. To ensure any reported instances of bullying are dealt with effectively and rapidly.
Implementation
1. All pupils learn how to keep safe, adopt safe practices and deal with risk.
2. All pupils learn about bullying, the effects of bullying and strategies for coping with
bullying as part of their curriculum. Assemblies are also organised to address the
issue.
3. We provide systems to enable bullying incidents to be reported, recorded and acted
upon quickly with clearly defined procedures and processes.
4. We work with pupils involved in or affected by bullying in a range of ways to equip
them with the skills and knowledge to counter and deal with bullying.
5. All pupils sign the Home School Agreement and agree ‘to do my best to keep the
school free from bullying.
6. Pupils are encouraged to discuss any issue of bullying with their form tutor in the first
instance.
7. All pupils have access to a Pastoral Support Manager (PSM) dedicated to dealing with
student welfare.
8. The bullying log is used to identify the seriousness and type of bullying.
9. We regularly seek the views of parents about bullying issues.
10. Peer and staff support is used to help pupils build resilience against bullying.
11. An anti-bullying text number and e-mail address enable pupils to send their concerns
to a PSM if they want to avoid a personal conversation. These can be found in the
student planner.
12. Anti-bullying guidance is on the VLE.
13. The school supports National Anti-Bullying Week and hosts a range of events
designed to raise awareness of bullying and to eradicate bullying.
