CURRICULUM POLICY

Chichester High
School for Girls

Overall Aim

Through ‘Personalised learning’ the school tailors the educational experience of our pupils’ individual needs, interests and aptitude, to ensure that everyone achieves and reaches the highest standards possible.  This happens right across the spectrum of achievement whatever a pupil’s background or circumstance.

Aims

1.   To promote the intellectual, spiritual, moral, social, cultural and physical development of
      all our pupils.

2.   To ensure that the curriculum fully meets the requirements of the National Curriculum
and the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda.

3.   To offer a wide range of subjects within the Arts and Sciences in line with our status as a
      Specialist School.

4.   To prepare our pupils for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life.

5.   To provide a wide range of extension and extra-curricular activities as part of the
       extended schools core offer.

Implementation

1.   At Key Stage 3 all pupils study the National Curriculum subjects as well as Religious
studies, Citizenship Personal Health Vocational Education (CPHVE) Drama and
"Learning to Learn".  Latin and a second modern language are available to pupils in
      Years 8 and 9.

2.   At KS4 all pupils follow a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, PE, CPHVE, RS
and ICT.  As CHSG is specialist in Arts and Science, all pupils are expected to take an
Arts subject or additional Science.  The remainder of  their curriculum is then made more
flexible to allow for more ‘personalised learning’.  Pupils make guided choices in a range
of optional GCSE, vocational and other accredited courses.

3.   At KS5 students choose courses that are suited to their interests and abilities.  The
curriculum, some of which is in collaboration with other local providers, is very wide.

Students may study AS/A2 (level 3) or vocational and level 2 courses.
