School for Girls

Rationale

The school fully supports the aims and objectives of West Sussex County Council to achieve Health and Safety at work.  Under Section 4 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Governing Body is regarded as the person who has control of the premises.  All users of the site (pupils, staff, visitors, contractors) should behave in a manner that ensures their own safety and the safety of those they are in contact with.  The policy applies to all accommodation on the school site and to all users of the site.  For further information on Health and Safety at Chichester High School for Girls please read the Health and Safety Procedures and the WSCC Health and Safety Manual.

Aims

1. To provide a safe and healthy environment for all users of the premises.

2. To promote and develop measures which ensure Health and Safety at work.

3. To ensure safe access and egress, to maintain the premises to a good standard, to
ensure the safe disposal of waste and to minimise the risks to health arising from plant
or substances used on the premises.

Implementation

     training.

2. Regular inspections of the premises are carried out to identify and institute remedial
work necessitated by any risk to Health and Safety derived from the premises, materials
    or equipment.

3. Annual inspections of the premises are carried out by governors to identify and institute
remedial work necessitated by any risk to Health and Safety derived from the premises,
    materials or equipment.

4. Any defects in the premises are reported to the Business Manager so that action can be
taken to prevent personnel being affected by the defect.

5. Any such defects are recorded and reported together with the action taken to rectify the
    situation.

6. Contractors working on the premises are required to undertake work in a safe manner.
